Our innovative solution
Sign Time developed together with the companies media productions and akaryon a special method to dub films in sign language. The human actor who signs the translation is faded into the film.
These sign language insertions make it possible for the text spoken in the film to be as accessible to the deaf as possible – just as in the case of a phonetic dubbing. Deaf viewers can tell which actor in the film is talking and being translated by means of a special color coding system.
The first film dubbed in this way in Austrian Sign Language is “The Counterfeitors”.
A video player was developed for this procedure. If a sign language dubbing has been produced for a film, deaf viewers can buy the normal DVD with the film, download the sign language inserts from the internet and play them synchronously with the film using this video player.
Project Flow
We begin by carefully analyzing your film or TV program to prepare it for translation.
Then, depending on the length of the film or TV program, we record the translation in several stages. The translation is checked according to the dual control principle and corrected if necessary.
Once the content of the translation has been finalized, it will be recorded synchronously to the spoken text in the film. The deaf actor works together with a hearing person to actually act synchronously.
Finally, the deaf actor is shown in the appropriate places in the film or TV program. These insertions are provided with a color coding system so that deaf viewers always know which actor or role is currently being translated.
